Questions and answers

The things people actually ask before and after buying, answered plainly — including the ones with inconvenient answers, like what descaling costs.

Using your geyser

How long does the water take to heat?

About 30 minutes in normal winter conditions. In peak winter, when the incoming water is much colder, allow 40 to 45 minutes. A larger tank takes proportionally longer, because there is more water to bring up to temperature.

How much electricity does it use?

The heating element is rated at 2000 watts, so it draws 2 units of electricity for every hour it is actually heating. It is not heating continuously — once the water reaches temperature the element switches off, and it only comes back on when the water cools. There is a calculator on each product page that estimates your monthly cost using your own electricity tariff.

Should I switch it off after every use, or leave it on?

You can leave it on. The thermostat cuts the element off once the water reaches temperature and switches it back on when the temperature drops, so it is not consuming power the whole time it is switched on. Leaving it on means hot water is ready when you want it rather than half an hour later.

What happens if the power goes off while it is heating?

The geyser simply stops heating. Whatever heat has already gone into the water stays in the water — so if it ran for ten minutes before the cut, you have ten minutes worth of heating, and the insulation holds it. When power returns it picks up where it left off.

Do I need a voltage stabiliser?

No. A stabiliser is not required for our water heaters.

Choosing the right one

What size do I need?

It depends on how many people use the bathroom. For two or three people, 15 litres is enough. For four or five people, take 25 litres. There is a size guide on this site that asks a few questions and gives you a straight answer.

Is 15 litres or 25 litres better for a shower?

25 litres. A shower uses considerably more hot water than a bucket for the same wash, so the smaller tank tends to run out partway through.

Can I fit one where the ceiling is low, or above a false ceiling?

Yes, if the height allows it. Where there is not enough clearance for a vertical unit, the horizontal variant fits the same capacity into a lower space. The AQUA series is available in horizontal mounting.

Why is TEJVAAN more expensive than a ₹3,000 geyser?

Because we do not compromise on build quality, even when doing it properly costs a few hundred rupees more. That is the whole basis of the brand. A geyser is something you live with for years and it holds pressurised hot water in your bathroom — it is not the place to save two hundred rupees.

Installation

Can I install it myself, or do I need someone?

It depends on what your bathroom already has. If the electrical point is in place but the plumbing connection is not, a plumber is the person who can complete it. If the plumbing is ready but there is no electrical point, an electrician is the one you need. Either way, use someone qualified — incorrect installation is one of the few things that is not covered under warranty.

What does the installer need to bring?

A set of two connecting pipes to run from the geyser to your existing water connections, and wiring from the unit to the socket. Nothing unusual — any competent plumber or electrician will have it.

Hard water, scaling and maintenance

My water is hard. What does that do to the geyser?

Dissolved minerals in hard water gradually deposit inside the tank and on the heating element. That layer makes the element work harder to transfer the same heat, and over time it is the most common reason a geyser stops performing. It is a property of your water supply rather than a fault in the appliance, which is why descaling is treated as routine maintenance.

How much does descaling cost, and how often?

Around ₹400 to ₹500 per service. In an area with normal water, once in a while is enough. Where the water is genuinely hard, it can be needed once or twice a season — roughly ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 across a winter on a steel-tank model. This is worth knowing before you buy, because it is a real running cost that nobody mentions in the shop, and it is the main reason to consider the glass-lined ELITE if your water is hard.

What is the anode rod, and which models have one?

It is a sacrificial magnesium rod inside the tank. It corrodes so that the tank does not, and it works against the effects of hard water. Only the ELITE is fitted with one — the AQUA and AURA are not. How long it lasts depends on how hard your water is, typically one to two years, and it is replaceable.

Does any model resist scaling better?

Yes. The ELITE has a glass-lined tank and a glass-coated element rather than bare steel and copper. In a hard-water area a steel-tank geyser typically needs descaling once or twice every season; the glass-lined ELITE usually goes two to three years between services. It slows scaling considerably rather than preventing it — no geyser can stop scaling, because it comes from the minerals in your water supply.

Warranty and service

Do I have to register online for the warranty to be valid?

No. Registration is not mandatory and your warranty is valid whether or not you register. It is there for your convenience — if you ever lose the invoice or the warranty card, the registration is a saved copy you can fall back on. What you cannot claim without is proof of purchase: you need either the original invoice or the warranty card. One of the two is mandatory.

How do I claim warranty?

Register a complaint on our geyser helpline (1800 270 8016) or raise a service request on this site. A service technician will visit your home to inspect and repair the unit.

What is covered, and what is not?

Manufacturing and technical faults are covered — the tank, the heating element, the thermostat and the electrical components. Accidental damage and cosmetic damage such as dents to the outer body are not. Servicing is separate from warranty: if the unit needs descaling or has choked, that is maintenance rather than a fault, and it is chargeable even during the warranty period. The full list is set out in the warranty terms, and it is worth reading before you need it.

How quickly will someone come?

Between 24 and 48 hours from when the request is registered, depending on your area.

Where do you provide service?

Our geyser service network currently covers Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. If you are outside these states, contact us before buying so we can tell you honestly what support we can offer.
